How to feed your baby solids the right way
Starting solid foods is a significant milestone in your baby’s nutritional journey, directly impacting their physical development, intelligence, and future health. If started incorrectly, your little one may develop a fear of food, leading to picky eating and poor absorption. Therefore, introducing solids properly from the very beginning is vital.
Starting solids is the process of helping your baby get used to foods other than milk. This stage requires patience and understanding from parents.
1.1. When is the best time to start?
According to recommendations, babies should begin solid foods at 6 months old, when breast milk alone no longer provides sufficient nutrition and their digestive system is ready.

Signs your baby is ready:
At least 6 months old
Can sit steadily and hold their head up well
Knows how to pick up food and bring it to their mouth
Shows chewing reflexes and interest when seeing adults eat
Still seems hungry after feeding
1.2. What foods should you start with?

Meals should include all 4 essential groups: carbohydrates, protein, fats, and vitamins & minerals.
Try offering **individual types of food** before combining them
Start with thin porridge/cereal → add protein → healthy oils → vegetables
Or use mashed soft vegetables and fruits (banana, avocado, pumpkin, carrots…)
If using baby cereal: choose **single-ingredient** varieties and avoid mixing too many types right away
If following the Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) method, ensure nutritional balance, specifically **prioritizing healthy fats over fiber** in the early stages.
👉 Most importantly: there is no “one-size-fits-all formula.” Start with foods that are easy to digest, low-allergy, and suited to your baby’s taste, then adjust based on your little one’s reaction.
